Tips To Avoid Sleep While Studying

1. Get up and move around to feel awake.

Sitting for long, uninterrupted periods of time may leave you more prone to cardiovascular problems.

The 10-minute walk increased energy for two hours. That’s because walking pumps oxygen through your veins, brain, and muscles.

2. Eat a healthy snack to boost energy.

Our brains are beautiful and absurdly powerful, but they sure are needy. And one of those needs is constant energy.

“Any time you go longer than 4 to 5 hours without eating, the body’s energy levels can crash significantly,”

3. Sit in bright light

Bright light exposure activates regions of the brain that promote alertness, and improves cognitive performance .

Our brains are hard-wired to stay awake during daylight hours and fall asleep when it gets dark at night. Put simply, bright, natural light helps you wake up, while dim, dark environments help you go to sleep.

4. Take deep breaths

Deep breathing raises blood oxygen levels in the body. This slows your heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and improves circulation, ultimately aiding mental performance and energy.

5. Drink water

Drinking more water gives you more energy to do anything from strenuous physical feats to staying awake at your desk after lunch. Many studies have shown that dehydration lowers athletic performance, making you feel sluggish and off your game.

6. Exercise

Exercise causes the body to release endorphins.
These chemicals can create a level of activity in the brain that keeps some people awake

7. Don’t sit on bed

Studying on bed might seem more comfortable than studying at a table but it can also make you feel lazy or even tempt you to sleep, especially when you are bored of studying.

You might get more work done by studying at a table because you don’t waste time.

8. Avoid heavy meals

When you’re eating a meal rich in carbohydrates and protein, you may feel sleepier because you have an uptake of tryptophan from the protein and then an increase of serotonin.

Eating also causes your blood sugar levels to rise, which can lead to a decrease in energy.

9. Change your place

Frequently changing study spots can positively impact your ability to retrieve the information you are trying to learn. This seems too simple to be true, but it is!

The first step to creating your study space is to choose a comfortable location. This can be a personal office, a desk in your bedroom, or a chair at the kitchen table. The important part is to choose an area with minimal interruptions – a quiet, relaxing space where you can focus and get work done

10. Avoid distractions

External distractions are ones that originate outside of you—things like technology (phones, social media, websites, YouTube, video games, Netflix), other people, or noises around you.

11. Motivate yourself for success

Motivated students are much more likely to achieve their potential and find success. Motivation is an essential ingredient in effective teaching and learning. It not only yields more positive behaviour in students, but it also contributes to a greater sense of wellbeing

12.Sleep well

The main cause of feeling sleepy whi studying is not getting enough sleep at night. Sleeping 7 to 8 hours every night is mandatory to keep in good health.

Do not oversleep or under-sleep and stick to a sleeping schedule so that your brain is prepared to start feeling sleepy at the same time each night.

13.Read aloud and write

Reading aloud can keep you more engaged than reading in your mind which will help keep you from falling asleep while studying.

Moreover, keep a rough copy beside you wherein you can write the important points of what you are reading. Not only is this the best way to memorise your notes, but it will also keep your body engaged and keep you focused and awake.

14. Wash your face

One of the most practical ways to keep awake is to wash your face whenever feeling sleepy. This is one of the most tried and tested methods and one which is perhaps most advised by parents around India.

Now, start studying without excuses and feeling sleepy. All the best 👍
